Just to clarify, a DICOM "Ping" is not like a regular ping. A regular ping
uses ICMP to verify connectivity to the ip stack. A DICOM ping actually
connects to the dicom TCP port as configured in the application
(ex:Radworks) for a DICOM ping to work, both systems must be setup to see
each other (their AE_titles, ip addresses, and TCP ports must already be
configured). The TCP port can be valid TCP port. Common ports are 104 and
3140.

I believe just setting up a simple custom port to check for a connect on the
DICOM port will do what you want.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] DICOM device monitoring

In the healthcare world, Radiology devices like catscan or MRI machine can
send or receive the images through what is called a DICOM transmission.
The is a file transfer protocol established in the medical industry for
transferring the scan images electronically from one location to another. I
would like to monitor these devices to ensure it is listening to receive
DICOM files. There are what is called DICOM ping programs out there (works
like regular ping). How can I get one of these kind of programs to work
with Whats up so that I can show that the Dicom receive service is down on a
particular machine?
