My guess would be that the "Traps" will alert WUG when the event happens and the "poll" is WUG looking at the OID to check the value every X minutes.

This may be a stupid question, but I'd be even stupider if I didn't ask it, and continued not to know....... What is the difference between allowing an SNMP trap (UPS on Battery/power restored) to notify of the battery condition and creating the SNMP monitoring entry below (upsbasicOutputStatus)?? An older version my not support all the mib values. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2003 2:32 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] Monitoring options for APC UPS well I dug into the MIBs to get some good oid's to monitor. I can't find one that explicitly tells me that it's on line or battery power, but I did find a "TimeOnBattery" oid, and when polled it returns a 0, probably indicating that it's NOT on battery. But when I create an SNMP service monitor in WUG to monitor this MIB it fails/doesn't work.... (I have another monitor I created for the "ReplaceBattery" OID and that seems to work fine), so now I ned help in understanding the debug log of my SNMPMON it says: Check Complete (-1) ups1 : 01: APCTimeOnBattery I'm assuming the -1 means that it failed, but how can I narrow down what failed, did it get a value back? is the 01 the value it returned? When I browse it via a separate mib browser it always returns a 0. The value of this oid is listed as TimeTicks, could that be screing something up in WUG? Thanks for any help, Please respond to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] Monitoring options for APC UPS One of the variables you will be interested in is the results of the self-test. The box will do a self test every two weeks (default, can be set to one week or off). If the self-test fails, you'll want to be taking action soon, preferably before the next self test or a power outage. Jay. First of all you must have a network card for you APC UPS ;) Then you can monitor ICMP (is the UPS still alive) and a lot of SNMP values. My question is, what monitoring options via WUG are available to me for an APC smart UPS? Thank you in advance.
