I just took a look at the trapgen utility from ncomtech.com and I don't see any reason why you couldn't just replace the logevent command with the trapgen command (with appropriate options of course). That would be a good solution for anyone that doesn't want to bother monitoring event logs. Is that the trapgen you were talking about?

Sure. Here's an early version that uses a text file to parse server names, drive letters and thresholds. Rename the file with the .vbscript extension to something with a .vbs extension, modify the first field in serverDSinfo.txt to a servername of your choice (as well as the thresholds...and add as many as you like), and run the vbs file with cscript (eg. cscript getdiskspace.vbs) on a machine that has the logevent.exe application.

I have the WUG alert notification set to send the usual data when it encounters an event number generated by the script, but the key info is sent via the %m variable...especially when sent to pagers where character count is a consideration.

Hi Thomas,

are you willing to share your script with the community ?

Thanks

I had actually tried that too, but wound up with installation problems with the SNMP4W2K package. I had submitted a trouble report but never heard back from them. Although it would have been nice to monitor disk space via SNMP, we figured that it was not worth the effort of using this third-party solution to enhance a third party solution. The caveats in the article about some of the issues were disheartening as well...particularly concerning RAID.

Anyway, a few lines of script does the trick for us.
