You forgot that in the email Kelly said "We will still continue to keep this email forum live for a period of time".
You know come to think about it maybe that is what my great grand father thought when they stopped making the model-T. It never broke and advanced the entire country into the automobile. Heck I still drive my (kept in the family) 1957 Chevy. Now we have light bulbs made to only last a certain time, life time power train warranties (go figure) and rubber dog, well you know. -- Sorry, I just had to go there.... Some things (listserv) however just make sense. Maybe with the right app or two or with the correct options from the forum I can replace the list feed and still have my options like I like them or at least I am hoping. Maybe I am dreaming... but I think down the long haul we just need to trust that Ipswitch knows what they are doing. It does seem weird however that over the last 5 years (I could go further) that many things have been asked for and I do not remember a forum request never ending in the list over the years, just this one. So you have to think why a forum and not some of the feature requests? I'm hoping that there is a big picture game plan that will reveal itself. I also have to admit that some functionality of the forum seems really cool but with 10,000 users I just don't have time, you know the time you had when you where not married or going to school. The time where all you did was stay up all night and hack... just not there for me anymore. --- I did this on my break. :> Tv -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bryan Frye Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 2004 1:35 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] New Online WhatsUp Gold Forum I'm of the opinion for having both. A forum just makes an easily searchable place to store info. When's the last time you posted a screenshot to the mailing list to explain how to set something up? That is easily done in a forum, and I think a lot of the question such as "How do I monitor bandwidth with WUG" or "How do I setup SNMP" or other questions you see almost weekly will go away. I don't want to get rid of the list either though, I do the same and do most of my reading/writing/replying on my handheld on the trainride to and from work, but I do agree with the larger functionality of a forum such as this. It's more just an expansion to the list I guess. If you don't like the forum, then just stick to the list.. or vice versa. I think, in time, both will come to convey similar information... >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 7/14/2004 12:29:40 PM >>> An RSS feed DOES NOT provide the functionality that a mailing list does. I have been testing Feedreader and it does OK. You can't reply to a message, you can't forward, you can't save the message in a different folder, and you can't delete a message you have read. So all of the messages just sit there. Also a very big thing to me is that I can't read it while at lunch like I do with all of my other mailing lists and forums. I sync my lists and groups that each has their own email folder to my handheld. I can flip though them while I eat lunch or when ever I have a few minutes like waiting for a meeting to start. I can even write my replies. Now I have to be on-line to read and on-line to reply. If I'm at my desk I have a lot of other things I should be doing. Because of the new forum I have spent an extra 2 hours at work this week reading and dealing with this group. So my big question is why a forum? It has not saved me any time only making it harder and more work to keep up to date.
