Hi Gang,

We're working on setting up the forum to send the complete
message--basically
the same functionality currently available through the forums RSS feed.
You'll
still need to go to the forum to post a message or reply, but posted
messages
will come to you automatically.

We're also in the process of putting together an FAQ that will describe how
to
setup RSS news readers to attach to the forum feed. That and one of the
free
readers available out there will get help get things moving.

I'm not sure how many of you have tried RSS, but for guys like me that
consume
huge quantities of news on a daily basis, RSS is fabulous.

Cheers!

That sounds great, but it also sounds like a lot of extra work. Why can't
we
have both, but have them be the same! SO are you telling me that you like
the
idea of checking two place to get the info you need/want on WUG. I'm NOT
asking that you stop with the forum. All I'm asking for is that when you
subscribe to the forum that you get the messages NOT a notification that
there
is a message. This is the only forum I have seen that does that.

PLEASE DO NOT SEPARATE THE GROUP!!

I'm of the opinion for having both. A forum just makes an easily searchable
place to store info. When's the last time you posted a screenshot to the
mailing list to explain how to set something up? That is easily done in a
forum, and I think a lot of the question such as "How do I monitor bandwidth
with WUG" or "How do I setup SNMP" or other questions you see almost weekly
will go away.

I don't want to get rid of the list either though, I do the same and do most
of my reading/writing/replying on my handheld on the trainride to and from
work, but I do agree with the larger functionality of a forum such as this.
It's more just an expansion to the list I guess. If you don't like the
forum,
then just stick to the list.. or vice versa. I think, in time, both will
come
to convey similar information...

An RSS feed DOES NOT provide the functionality that a mailing list does. I
have been testing Feedreader and it does OK. You can't reply to a message,
you can't forward, you can't save the message in a different folder, and you
can't delete a message you have read. So all of the messages just sit
there.
Also a very big thing to me is that I can't read it while at lunch like I do
with all of my other mailing lists and forums. I sync my lists and groups
that each has their own email folder to my handheld. I can flip though them
while I eat lunch or when ever I have a few minutes like waiting for a
meeting
to start.
I can even write my replies. Now I have to be on-line to read and on-line
to
reply. If I'm at my desk I have a lot of other things I should be doing.

Because of the new forum I have spent an extra 2 hours at work this week
reading and dealing with this group. So my big question is why a forum? It
has not saved me any time only making it harder and more work to keep up to
date.

This sounds great...The RSS feeds should take care of us who will miss the
features of a mailing list.
