At the end of the day, I found that I could just compile the appropriate mibs from
HP/Compaq and Dell and then pick out what I wanted to monitor.

Getting the latest mibs for the Dell stuff required me to download the latest
openmanage update from dell (192MB) just to get the right 560K mib file. If you
download just the mib from Dell, you get one that is several revs older.

The mibs on the somix site were ancient (sorry guys, it's the truth).

If you're interested in having me send you the latest mibs (that I can get anyway) for
either or both platforms, give me a shout.

With that said, picking out what I wanted to monitor and in what context took a few
hours and some trial and error. The Dell mibs were a little bit easier to walk
through than the compaq mibs.

I would suggest using WUG to do basic alerts of global issues and then drilling down
into the boxes with the appropriate management platforms to get the details.

I am still having an issue where one of my Dell boxes works fine with OpenManage, but
I cannot read some (but I can read some of it) of the information from WUG. The
kicker is that it works fine on other Dell boxes.

Dan,

I'm interested in doing the same and will be looking for the MIBS for HP and Dell in
the near future. If I get something working I'll pass on the info.

BTW do you have any relatives in New Jersey?

Cheers,

Jim

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Compaq Insight Manager

Has anyone integrated Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) into WUG 8.x?

I am interested in monitoring for things like power supply, disk failures, overtemps,
etc with WUG without actually loading CIM on the monitoring workstation. I understand
that I would have to load the CIM SNMP agent on the compaq boxes themselves.

I am also interested in doing this with Dell Servers running their SNMP agent.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Betreff: [WhatsUp Forum] SMTP Alerts using alternate port number

Has anyone configured What's Up Gold to send SMTP alerts to an alternate port? I need
to send external e-mail using port 6000. We have a spam blocker that uses port 25 and
will not allow my alerts to use the same port.
I've sent a tech support e-mail as well but I thought I would try here as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
