If there are no Active Monitors defined on the Device then there will be no monitoring. The icon that displays on the map will be an inverted grey triangle, meaning simply "unknown".
To get to this state, double-click to open Device Properties, go to the "Active Monitors" tab, and remove the monitors. Now, it could be that you are in the situation where it's a case of "Hold on.. I have a Monitor xxxx attached to that device. Removing it entirely is too extreme.. I might forget that it's there and that's not what I want". i.e., the presence of the monitor on the Device in WhatsUp Professional acts as a form of documentation of its existence on the device itself. And that's a different thing to actually polling it. Well, we can handle that too. When on the "Active Monitors" tab of Device properties, highlight the Active Monitor of interest and click "Edit". You can turn off polling for the Monitor. You will then end up with the inverted grey triangle. As an aside, if unhappy with particular icons that are used then you can edit them via Configure -> Program Options -> Device States. What if I have a device that I want to show on my maps (like a fax), but I can't monitor it. I want it on the map, so I can track the fax number, the model number and even what toner it uses. However I don't want it monitored, and I don't want any status at all to show in the map, or in upper level maps. In WUG I could just turn off monitoring of the device. I also set the color for status inactive (unmonitored) to white with a very small box. Was the inactive/unmonitored state removed in WUP? If so why. I would say that I have 20% of my devices in WUG set as inactive. I really like the idea of maintenance, but not at the loss of inactive. You could put the device into maintenance mode: Device Properties>Polling>Maintenance>Force this device.... I'm not sure what affect leaving something with an unknown status does to your reports, but I do know Maintenance mode is accounted for properly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks, Steve Busby Information Technology Services University of Nebraska Medical Center 985030 Nebraska Medical Center [EMAIL PROTECTED] 402.559.9621 If Linux doesn't have the solution, you have the wrong problem. ***************University of Nebraska Medical Center E-mail Confidentiality Disclaimer *************** The information in this e-mail is privileged and confidential, intended only for the use of the addressee(s) above. How do you do this in WUP? I see a status of unknown, but in WUG there was also a status of inactive.
