Thank you for your input, but I have a different opinion on this matter. New product or not, it should perform as expected. Issues are expected with beta test versions. This is not a beta test version. We're paying good money for this product and we shouldn't be expected to compromise. Personally, I'm not going to go through the hassle of recreating everything. I'd like this issue to be fixed before I continue forward.

Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] WUP Upgrade

I am not trying to defend Ipswitch. BUT they did state this is a NEW product. As with any NEW software package there will be some issues.

To get my monitors and alerts in a DB, I had to install a clean copy of WUG on a machine and copy the contents from my running WUG.

I then did the upgrade with the MSDE (as I know how to backup a DB and restore it to a SQL Server) When I hit a snag, I fixed it and removed the items from the install that were processed as to NOT add double entries.

I am taking my time and really individually migrating what I need to the new version while keeping my WUG running.

Until I get WUP to where I want it, WUG stays.

I have found some great additions in this product and do believe that the SPs will add the functions that are missing.

Overall this is a good product and has great potential.

For all those having issues, Install WUP and gradually migrate it over.

My 2 Cents  For what its worth.

I had used the WUG default when it was installed... "C:\Program Files\WhatsUp\" and I'm allowing WUP's default location to

        "C:\Program Files\WhatsUp Professional 2005\"

I've even tried once (after making a backup) installing WUP into the default WUG directory and that didn't work either.

        Thanks for the info though.

From what I have read on the list it will only prompt for the upgrade if WUG is installed on the default location of the C: drive. If you changed it like most Network people who do not run your apps on the C: drive then it does not work.

I had a similar issue. I had to recreate the context for my maps in order to get them to upgrade correctly.

I keep reading all these messages relating to upgrading from WUG, and they all state that the option to "upgrade" is available during the installation, however; after several attempts of installing WUP and trying different preferences and subsequently uninstalling it, I have yet to see any option that allows me to upgrade. It installs separately every time without an upgrade being done. Have I downloaded the wrong copy or something?
