If you have a switch you might be able to discover additional interfaces
which would represent each individual port. Then when a port went up/down so
would the corresponding interface. Might not need SNMP at all.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] SNMP Traps for Link State

I'm trying to setup SNMP traps could use a little bit of help. I have the
traps setup on one particular switch, but I can't isolate an up/down
change for a specific interface. For example, I can tell that a port went
up or down, but I can't tell -which- port went up/down. Yes, I can setup
and monitor by syslog and write some expressions to match individual
interfaces, but I'd rather just get the traps setup properly.

Am I trying something that's just not possible?
