Hmm.. The use case. Not very practical yet. I was just wondering, if it's possible.

What I'd wanted it is make a link component that would be able to tell, if it's opened in new window or not (using javascript). The actual component should expand to something like this:

<noscrip>
 <a href="{ default_url }">Tag Body</a>
</noscript>
<script type="Text/javascript">
 document.write ("
 <a href=\"{ open_in_new_window_url }\"
    onclick=\"javascript: window.location='{ default_url }';
                          return false;\">
   TagBody</a>");
</script>

I know it's an ugly hack and not very practical, I just wanted to find out, if it's possible to do.

It would be against the usual Wicket scoping though. It's easy to - without a Panel - expand the body of a tag (see AbstractChoice for an example), and it fits the idea of a component being attached to a tag. However, what you want is to let the component operate outside it's tag scope.

I think Juergen can answer this best. In the mean time, could you please tell us about your use case?

This is something I wanted to avoid. I don't want the component to carry any markup, I want it to use parent's markup.

Yup, use a panel.

Hi,

is it possible to make a component (derived from WebMarkupContainer)
that would render in multiple tags?

e.g. I have the following markup

<span wicket:id="component_id">Something</span>

and the result would be

<span wicket:id="component_id">Something</span>
<another-tag>Something</another-tag>

Many thanks.
