Send me your sourceforge id, and I will add you. My requirements are not too complex: mapping the status of a distributed sensor network. Except some of the sensors will be mobile, so I will need to plot them with an X second refresh.
Definitely start with the simplest thing possible. Just a simple map panel with an example project will be a good start.
