Emulating MediaWiki behavior doesn't seem ideal to me. It feels like
reinventing/rewriting MediaWiki as a MediaWiki extension. Ensuring that *links
tables are up-to-date and accurate is already difficult as it is.

As I understand it, Flow wikitext is currently not run through the PHP parser.
I don't see how you can reasonably escape this step.
