Thanks to you all for your suggestions and experiments regarding
uploading information from my iMac to the WE system. I find it
encouraging that my question has generated such instant response!

All of this does sound hopeful, and not quite as impossible as I first
thought. And yes, some of my teaching materials are in Word, an
ancient version of it, but accessible still. Some of my teaching
material is only in a hard copy format, and it may be more time
consuming to explore scanning options that will need to be revised/
cleaned up, than it would be to simply retype those documents straight
into the system.

Once I actually get started with a sample transfer, probably using
Open Office (but I will look at all the links above), I expect my
enthusiasm for this whole concept will get me to do more of the actual
work. I am impressed so far with what I've seen.

Again, many thanks for your willingness to send out aid over the
airwaves. You will be hearing from me again, but not all that fast.
We do alot of gardening here (I am in a US exclave in the Pacific
Northwest), and it is planting season, so I am not online much at the
moment.
