I think I fixed this on my test wiki a couple of months ago, but I was waiting for one of the MediaWiki folks to review my patch before I risked it on WikiEducator. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13908 I guess I'll take the risk of installing it on WE... but that doesn't address James's original question. Looking at the code, it looks like it takes super spidey powers to delete a post.
