Hi Everyone -- earlier today Leigh allerted me to the fact that I hadn't
posted a notification about the action we took with a SPAM mail post on
WE. I meant to post this to the list, but it only went to Leigh's
account.

Hi Leigh,

You're right -- I should have posted a notification about the SPAM and
action taken -- sorry about that. An overloaded inbox taking its
toll :-(. In line with WikiEducator's commitment to freedom of speech
-- a little info for members of our list:

      * WE doesn't moderate any posts
      * The WE list uses an open registration -- anyone can join.

The downside is that on very rare occasions inappropriate content can
slip onto the list. Over the last two years we've only had two
instances. That said, as our community grows the risk for SPAM
increases. The best way to manage this, in my opinion is for the
community to help out. (Implementing a moderation function would not
sit well with the values of our community.)

At the moment, including myself we only have two group managers on the
WE mailing list with the rights to delete SPAM. WE runs 24/7 --- and
obviously I wouldn't be able to delete any SPAM while sleeping.

Are there any volunteers on the list who would like to put up their hand
to help out should a SPAM message slip through?

Cheers
Wayne
