Hi Phil

Seems to me that there is an opportunity provide support to community
mobilizers by offering the training and providing a "community of
practice" - a group of people with similar interests or activities who
connect to share ideas, ask questions and provide moral support.

Which brings us to non-formal learning. So what is a community of
practice, you ask?

Last fall there was an open online course, Facilitating online
communities (FOC08)
http://www.wikieducator.org/Facilitating_online_communities

One of the readings included
Communities of Practice: Learning as a Social System by Etienne Wenger
1998
http://www.co-i-l.com/coil/knowledge-garden/cop/lss.shtml

All the "artifacts" from the course are still available and Leigh
Blackall - developer and facilitator, is still around.

Is there a way for community mobilizers - people have used the
Community Empowerment training, to connect with others? Do they share
ideas? Ask questions? Is there non-formal learning going on among
them?

..Valerie
