Hi Everyone, I've been meaning to post a word of congratulations to the WikiMedia Foundation on our list, who recently announced exiting changes to their licensing policy.
Following a positive community vote, the WikiMedia Foundation have passed a resolution to relicense the content of their community projects including Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikiversity etc under a Creative Commons Sharealike License (CC-BY-SA). This is a great opportunity to widen collaboration within the freedom culture in sharing and reusing content. Once the new licensing is implemented -- this now makes it legally possible to develop derivative works from WikiMedia Foundation projects in support of the development of OER for different teaching contexts. Similarly, content developed by our community can potentially add value to WikiMedia Foundation projects. This is a significant step in helping achieve the vision of free content resources in support of all national curricula in the world. Through collaboration we can achieve so much more than working alone. A great day for the the freedom culture.
