Hi Kim,

Thanks for your note.

I'm optimistic and confident that this will lead to a higher level of
collaboration among free culture initiatives in the education sector --
hopefully wider than just WMF projects and the WE community :-). For
example, WE has submitted a funding proposal to Hewlett for content
interoperability between Connexions and Mediawiki installations.

Atkins, Brown and Hammond warn against "success disaster" where, for
instance, a teacher has access to hundreds of free courses in elementary
calculus. The OER movement needs to think about incentives to promote
access to fewer instances of the "same" course materials but offer more
flexible ways for communities to reuse and remix content, develop support
materials, customised activities etc. (

while recognising their unique community identity.

Each of the WMF, WE and Connexions communities have their own character,
unique strengths (and weaknesses) --- fostering interoperability and reuse
among these projects is a step in the right direction. (Think of the
different GNU/Linux distros each adding value in their own way.) The
licensing interoperability has removed a significant barrier in achieving
these goals :-)

Cheers
Wayne
