I emailed the WMF's trademark people just to confirm that naming a society the "[NAME] Wiki[mp]edia Society" did not require approval. Their response was that it may: a hurdle, if not a large one. Usefully, then, WMUK could seek some clarification in this area, just to keep the burden on volunteers down.
