Rick, I'm looking at a program which encrypts the MBR pre-Windows, so re-booting
seems not to be an option. btw,
If it can be encrypted, it can also be decrypted.
Encrypting the MBR, would that work? I'd have thought the file system would need to be encrypted, otherwise writing a new MBR would let us in.
I'm not trying to access anyone's computer but
just trying to protect myself. While it seems possible to "open" a computer locked
with WinXP's screen saver, it also seems to require re-booting.
That's the only fly in the ointment, it does need a reboot.
My HP Pavilion's BIOS doesn't have the ability to lock the boot process, so a
third-party software program seems to be needed. By "lock it down" do you mean
give restricted access to what a guest might be able to do. Since many of us run
as Administrators, it may be that once the password on the screen saver is
discovered then it is easy to navigate around the system.
The passwords aren't discovered, they're merely nulled. -- Andy
