Rick, good decision re wife's car. First things "first".

Responding to your comments: "Yes", I agree that all Incrementals MUST be
choose the same file as the Complete archive file (or one of the Incrementals
tied to this Complete) as their reference point. I tested this by selecting
the Complete file and the Incremental has same file name with addition of a
digit 2 for first, 3 for second, etc.) after Complete file name. I also ran an
Incremental using the last Incremental as the reference and the resulting file
had a 4 added to file name for the third Incremental. So I learned it makes no
difference, it just needs to be a file in that series.

Next you said "ALL file parts from any full back-up PLUS any added incremental
pieces MUST be
"on-line" at once, AND in the SAME directory IF you want to "browse", mount
them,
or (check their integrity?)". From this answer, I interpret this to mean that
when doing a 100% Restore you MUST first Restore the Complete file, NEXT you
MUST Restore the first Incremental (i.e. the file with "2" added to file name),
then you MUST Restore the second Incremental (with a 3 added), continuing until
the last made Incremental is Restored. Rick, this is really important,
because isn't the conventional meaning of an Incremental that the Incremental
is EVERYTHING changed since the Complete archive? For a full Restore from a
disaster you would only need to Restore the Complete and the LAST Incremental.
The Acronis Help implies, but does not explicitly state, that you should
Restore all the Incrementals. No where does it specify an order for the
restoration, but I guess that is assumed to be understood.

Based on your comments about the Secure Zone, I decided to just "see what
happens" and put in the Acronis bootable CD (that I made using their software;
the original Acronis installation CD is not bootable). It booted the PC to a
LINUX screen....Rick, you were correct in thinking they use LINUX). In their
LINUX environment I did not see my external hard drive with the Acronis archive
files, but did see a "Computers Near Me" entry. This led to my wireless
network Workgroup which led to my PC which DID show the external HD and I
browsed to the external HD where the Acronis archive files (Complete and
Incremental). The Acronis environment also showed my wife's notebook and it's
attached external HD and the Acronis images.

I closed out of the environment and booted back into XP.

Based on this experience, I do not see any reason to create the "mandatory"
Secure Zone partition. Rick, any idea "why" Acronis says you must create this
partition? Am I "missing" something, Acronis users?

When you get a chance, Rick (or others), can you comment on what is to me
"crazy" Incremental file sizes..i.e. when making the tiniest change between
Complete and first Incremental...the Incremental size was 192 MB, then another
tiny change and the second Incremental size was 508 MB, and then with no change
the next Incremental was 14 MB, and lastly I scheduled for an automatic
Incremental to be made an hour ago and it was 560
MB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The notebook had just sat
overnight, with no changes made by me. What in the heck is "going on" with
these Acronis "Incremental" archive files?????
