There's a lot of healthy skepticism here on this newly enacted anti-piracy law and I must admit that I too am skeptical about it. But on the other hand since it's been signed into law by the pres I have to all but take it very seriously this time just by knowing this fact.
Both the RIAA and the MPAA ( Of whom I'd like to call the Record Police and The Movie Police respectively or the better term The Keystone Cops ) as well as both music and motion picture artists and producers lobbied and sponsored for the ant-piracy bill that just became law they mean business. So for anyone who dares to get a booted pre-release copy of Star Wars ep III from the net be warned for the authorities will come knocking on your door with a search warrant and be subject to a three year prison sentence just for downloading stolen property. This sounds very harsh indeed but if you do get sentenced don't come running to me. Lets face it esspecially for a die-hard Star Wars fan such as I, I have some very timely advice: Its better to go to your local theater and pay the full admission price of $8.50 for a ticket and enjoy the movie with your friends rather than to pay thousands worth in damages and be incarcerated for 3 years pirating illegal movies. Its only fair here folks. If you think that you can get away with pirating movies I have a good suggestion DON'T DO IT! Its just not worth it in some cases just to be the first on your block or world to have a copy of something that everyone else has to wait and pay to see. I am going to pay may full price of admission to have fun and eat popcorn with friends than to steal and be held in contemp of the law. That's the bottom line. Cool... maybe they'll stop.. (fat chance). I'm amused that aside from the euphemists [who continue to call the activity "file sharing"], they mostly don't even try for an apologetic for what they're doing: they *KNOW* it is both improper and illegal [else they wouldn't go to so much trouble to use various anonymizing schemes to cover their tracks], but in an amoral sort of way they figure it is OK, or that the copyright holders are evil and money grubbers and deserve being ripped off... or [more likely] "free is good"... /b\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- The WIN-HOME list is hosted on a Windows 2000(TM) machine running L-Soft international's LISTSERV(R) software.
