The "dial-up" part of that notification bothers me. Doesn't your
Internet connection come in on your LAN or network interface card?

I think via my wireless moden. Both our computers are hooked directly to it.

So the modem includes a multiport router?
Do both computers experience the same problem? If so, you should get
into the modem/router setup screen and poke around for suspicious settings. One possibility may be an unusually short DHCP lease time.
To check DHCP lease time, go to a Command Prompt and type


ipconfig /all

This will identify the DHCP server, 'lease obtained' and 'lease expires'.
