IRL formula cars and CART formula cars are NOT F1 cars. They just look
pretty much the same. And, they do not run at the Cleveland airport or on
Detroit streets. Indy is the currently the ONLY F1 race in the US. As an ex
formula car race driver I understand the situation of not racing if the FIA
would not allow a chicane to slow the cars to prevent tire failure from
excess loading on the sidewall.I also understand the FIA saying that the
race must go on as designed. Michelin screwed up!! That's racing... I would
have opted for a chicane for the fans but it wouldn't have been the right
thing to do. It's a sad situation for F1 racing in this country especially
with the pending promotion of Scott Speed. I just hope the sanction is not
pulled from the race.

There was a case a couple of years ago where the CART cars pulled out of a
race at TWS (Texas world speedway near Ft. Worth) due to the high banks and
the g force problems caused by the high banks and the downforce on the cars.

Again, as a "has been", I loved to race but not to race without the proper
safety aspects of the sport.
