How am I "slightly screwed"?

Well where is Windows going to find the sndvol.* files if they aren't in the Windows folder? I know where you told me but Windows doesn't know this.

Why not edit the all the HIDE's out the sysdoc.inf file first? When you find the Multimedia category then beneath that you should see whether or not you have the sndvol installed properly or not.

Only slightly because when you put a check mark in front of Volume Control, Windows will auto-magically install it upon exiting providing it can find your installation files which are normally on the cd unless the computer lives at Wayne's house then there is nothing normal about him or it.
