1) Yes, I have emptied the cache. PS, James, how did you get none of the
list-junk to show at the bottom of your post???
2) Yes about Wisptis -- I found that out, too :-( --but in any case it
doesn't seem to have been the problem.
3) I don't exactly understand what you mean about the child window, but I
think the answer is no. When everything is working, it's all working fine.
Connections are fast and everything opens as it should. When things aren't
working, connections are slow and nothing will open. But it doesn't time
out the way it would if the server couldn't be reached, and usually I don't
get a "page can't be displayed" message. The window just sits there with a
half-filled status bar for five or ten minutes on end in an incomplete
state -- you know, it's semi-frozen and the scrolling bar doesn't work, etc.
At times Eudora is also very slow. But it can get through. So it isn't that
I'm not connected. It's that downloading is extremely slow.
I've run adaware, spybot, spysweeper, and NAV. I've taken everything out of
startup that I possibly can. Now I'm trying to identify running processes.
