i got that machine for my kids a few weeks ago (2 of them). Shared
memory isn't a problem - and 256 is mostly enough for the things you
expect the kids will use it for, but i upgraded it to 512 right off
(crucial or other sites have better prices than Dell - i get ram from
one of three sites and i think crucial was the cheapest for the
3000's).
I got two of the DIM3000's and took the stick from one machine and put
it in the other so they'd have matching ram (plus that machine needed
to go to may daughter's apartment befoee the new ram arrived.)
The very first thing you want ot do is make an image of the drive -
they don't include a restore cd. This will allow tyou to quickly
restore the disk if she gets a virus or something.
