Upon re-reading the post I'd say the cheapest way is to get a cat 5 cable
and run it to PC A, then when PC B needs access just uplug cable from PC A
and plug it into PC B.
Now that's cheap and simple.
And when both need access at the same time, what will happen?
Since both users are college students, the likelyhood of both
having a term paper due at the same time is quite high.
The extra $5 for a hub will be well worth it.
Another possibility: if the PCs are recent model laptops, they may already
have wireless adapters built-in, in which case a wireless router makes sense.
