Actually I had an implied :^) stuck in there.
I really would stick a cheap router and a couple of cables in there.
Cheap router $20 + (2 x $5 cat5 14' cables)  =  $30  = CHEEP!

And when both need access at the same time, what will happen?
Since both users are college students, the likelyhood of both
having a term paper due at the same time is quite high.
The extra $5 for a hub will be well worth it.

Another possibility: if the PCs are recent model laptops, they may already
have wireless adapters built-in, in which case a wireless router makes
sense.
