You've seen the fix as per Andy's post, and I've made notes of it too, in several places in case I have a user panic to sort out, and as you may have noticed, it does sort of induce panic, don't it! --------------
Norton - Right Click to get at Properties There are: Recycle Bin - All Protected files Norton Protection - Purge after 1 days, and Enable Protection Global - use 0% of drive for recycle bin ----------------- Chkdsk - Start run cmd chkdsk /? /F to fix the problems ( you really need /X and /V on a NTFS volume) /X to allow the facility to get at the directories, space allocation and indexes etc. (leggo of it you nasty corrupting OS) /V to get a list of the problems found - combine with redirection of the O/P to a file Be careful about /R - the sectors were probably marked for a reason, possibly not retaining data for more than a couple of hours /V can be also be useful/fun using output redirection such as >tothisfile.txt to get a list of files etc on a FAT volume ------------------ JimB And - again, thanks to Andy for not only knowing what, but also where shame he didn't tell us last week Now you've probably got some plastering to do ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Gundersen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 8:42 PM Subject: Re: Suddenly - well slowly I am losong Hdd space? Norton do what you want it to do - it only does what it was told to do when installed. Seems like a registry hack to me unless you can enlighten me on the Switch off routine (I think it is already OFF but I'll check) Then can you give me the chkdsk switches /f does nothing although NDD tells me about the index probs but not all the nprotect files are there. Sir Hugh of Bognor Intelligence is not knowing the answer but knowing where and how to find it!
