Folks, this new system stuff is getting tiresome! Too many decisions and none of them for what I really want. Like the time when I bought my car -- I don't really like it -- I wish I hadda.... Same with the bed I just bought.

So I reluctantly settled on an Antec P180 case -- Very nice looking but I have to give up a 3.5 bay for the 12cm fans. And I have to learn to live with the door.

Ahh but the PSU is easy isn't it -- an Antec NeoPower 480W -- No It ain't easy. I looked at the specs of some of the stuff Most don't say, but some video cards say things like use a >400W PSU. Now if I lower myself to two video cards in PCIe16 slots and decide to waste my time playing games, does that mean i need that 850W PSU I asked about previously????

Then I have to deal with the M/B. It gets worse. I lean very strongly toward Gigabyte. That would mean the K8NXP-SLI with (2)PCI, (2)PCIe1, and (2)PCIe16. Who could want more than that? I do. i want more PCI slots -- modem, SCSI, my current video card. Ahh yes and another slot --- just in case.

Looks like I am going to have to give up more goodies.

Ok lets turn for example to the Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9-SLI with (3)PCI, (2)PCIe1, but only (1) PCIe16, Do I really need 2 PCIe16s and SLI?

Ohh my look at this -- 22 min has passed and now there is the ASUS A8N0SLI with (3) PCI, (2) PCIe1, and (2) PCIe16 slots.

I am home free -- No. It is an ASUS unit. The word damn comes to mind but I won't say it out loud.

Besides what is going to happen in the next 22min?

Then I start to think seriously. Why on Earth do I need SLI? and two PCIeX16 slots? To make use of these i would need $1000 in video cards. No? Who in his right mind would pay $1000 to play video games? Then there is the question of the CPU -- another $1000

Besides I see no sign of PCIeX1 cards of any kind Do really need such slots "just in case"? Ditto PCIeX16

I would very much like to have some flexibility for the future, but... Why don't I just give in?

What do you think? What am I missing? What would/do you do?

Jim
