I can suggest suppliers other than Newegg, but I won't. Newegg rocks.

Newegg sells many more OEM drives than retail so their volume gets them a
much lower cost. They just carry the boxed version for those who demand it.
So it's a combination of no-box/cables/screws/CD and lower cost that makes
the OEM cheaper.

If you still feel uneasy, send an E-mail to Newegg customer service asking
for some kind of written confirmation of warranty. If you have that, and
Seagate turns you down, in my experience Newegg makes good on claims they've
made even when the vendor renigs.

I appreciate very much all the answers given thus far -- but I see that I
have asked the question poorly. Let me try again:

Newegg seems to be selling the same HDD listed as OEM and Retail at a
difference of ~$30.

NB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA NCQ 3.5 Serial ATA 160gB Hard Drive

Both Retail and OEM with a 5yr mfg warranty -- No comment re extra cables
or s/w -- and no comment that either may not be purchased alone..

What did I miss?

And while we are at it, can anyone suggest a supplier other than Newegg.

TX, Jim
