If you need only domain email, you don't need any "hosting".

Yes, this is what I'm trying to find out how to do. Just have a name and be able to get mail from/through it.

The included free email features depend on the particular registrar. At http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains it says that domain registration includes:

" Email forwarding to a free Yahoo! email address"

I assume this means that [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be forwarded to your @yahoo.com address. The limitation I see is that the free Yahoo email has web access only, no POP3 unless you pay extra. If this meets your needs, fine.
If not, you can go the next step which is also free:

Get a free account at ZoneEdit.com, they will give you a pair
of nameserver names. Enter those names into your Yahoo domain control panel. After a few hours, you can start
receiving domain email at any email address you already
have. ZoneEdit.com gives you unlimited forwarding and allows you to set up separate email addresses such as [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], etc.

Let me know if you have further questions.
