Hello Sharol -

While you shouldn't have to, sometimes it is just easier to switch than
fight.

Why not set up a GMail account (if you don't already have one -- many of us
can provide an invitation to do so) and change your Win-Home account to
that. GMail can be accessed, both send and receive, either with their
browser interface or by POP/SMTP. Directions for the latter is on the GMail
web page.

Alternatively, set up a cheap domain and it can be accessed through ANY ISP
and remains constant no matter who that ISP may be. As recently discussed in
a thread I started a couple of weeks ago, you can (or could at the time)
register your own domain at Yahoo for $2.99/year and host it at E-Rice for
$5/year. Additionally, you can register a domain at Go Daddy for $7.95/year,
and while you don't get a website without additional cost, you DO get one
free email account as part of the deal, hosted by Go Daddy. I currently have
one to several accounts as described above and they all work quite well.

As to Wild Blue, if you get a good install, it should work quite well for
you. They are a new company, as compared to DirecWay, but folks over on the
satellite forums at BroadBand Reports generally speak highly of them. Just
bear in mind that satellite internet is NOT real broadband, but it BTHOO
dial up! I have had DirecWay for 15 months now and no WAY would I want to go
back to dial up. You might want to check

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/sat

Note that across the top of that page there are tabs for Wild Blue,
Direcway, etc. Many of the people on the Wild Blue forum are previous
DirecWay users, and if I were just now buying a system, it would likely be
with Wild Blue rather than DirecWay too. Newer technology for one thing (KA
band vs. KU with DirecWay) and reports of MUCH more responsive tech support.
I find that the satellite forums there for satellite internet are quite
comparable to the list here for Windows.

Just a Real World caveat: If you get Wild Blue, or ANY satellite ISP,
expecting anything comparable to your existing DSL, you WILL be
disappointed. Just due to the nature of the beast, latency is a BIG issue.
Most of your pings on DSL are likely in the low middle digits, while just
due to the length of the space-segment of a satellite ping, the best you are
going to do is ~500ms, and realistically, it will be around 750ms and up.

Best of luck with Wild Blue.

That was also my feeling. Especially since a couple of other members of
the list are having the same problem.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), I will be
changing providers in a week or so when I move out of DSL range. I have
no idea what my new e-mail will be (it is through Wild Blue)until it gets
set up and running Wednesday. AT that point I can change my subscription
e-mail and all should be well again even if SBC doesn't get their act
together. Until then, I'll just use the archives to follow the doings of
the list...
