Well, I found an XP Home CD, started the boot from CD. It began to boot, loading different files. When it gets to the part where I can choose the Recovery Console, I select it and it asks which Install of Win I want to repair.

There is only one listed. I hit enter and the machine shuts down.

BTW you have to type the number of the windows installation to logon to before hitting enter. Hitting enter only will cancel the logon to the Recovery Console as per the MSKB below. "Which Windows Installation would you like to log on to (To cancel, press ENTER)?" I believe the computer would reboot however, not turn off.

Using the Command Console

After you start the Windows Recovery Console, you receive the following message:

Microsoft Windows(R) Recovery Console

The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.

Type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

1: C:\WINDOWS

Which Windows Installation would you like to log on to
 (To cancel, press ENTER)?

After you enter the number for the appropriate Windows installation, Windows will then prompt you to enter the Administrator account password.
