here in the UK caller-ID (a monthly fee), shows you who's calling,
EXCEPT if they prefix the dialled number with a "mask" (it's something
like 1472), but now a lot of "spam" calls have paid to ALWAYS hide their
number. Again, you can pay a monthly fee to have all hidden numbers
refused (all these add up to more than my flippin' bill!), but I just
refuse to answer the phone to numbers that show as "secret" on my
handset. Quite a few UK ISP's insist you reveal your number for dial-up
access. There are 2 good blacklists in the UK you can register with
though, compliant companies (most of them I think) must NOT call your
number unsolicited if you register with these 2 lists
