Most all of the Free register cleaners I downloaded checks for errors and
finds a lot that needs repair. But in order to fix the problems, they want you to purchase the product. Any ideas on anything that will search and fix? I am
using Windows XP Pro.

I'm sorry to say but in my experience most of those free tools are just another way to get spyware on your system. I had to clean a client's system up just last week that ran a registry cleaner. It cleaned it alright. After he ran it he kept getting pop unders that wouldn't go away with IE's popup blocker nor would they disappear after running Ad Aware, Spywareblaster or Spybot S&D. I had to edit the registry to get rid of the tool. Make sure you trust who ever it is into your system because once they're in they can be heck to get rid of.
