I would suggest, based on what you have said, that the enclosure does
not support DMA and only uses a 40 pin cable.
In this case you will have to set the Plextor drive jumper so that DMA
is turned off. ( Which I thought was the default setting ?? ) Either
way it will not do any harm to try it and see.
FWIW I have a number of physically identical enclosures, of which 2 do
not support DMA. Both of these only have a 40 wire cable inside them.
It may only be 70mm long, but the drive can detect the difference. All
the enclosures are specified for USB2. Changing the internal cable for
an 80 wire one, however does not alter the behaviour !! Also the
device chip (GL811E) and circuit board appears to be the same in all
the enclosures.
