Stephen, Thanks for the reminder.
None of them are (unfortunately, in my opinion) savvy enough to apply the unofficial fix. ( Some have difficulty with the concept that "Anv-Controls.xls" is not the same as "Anv Controls .xls", even when the application displays a message stating that the application directory does not appear to contain a file named "Anv-Controls.xls" - and asks them to check the directory etc...) However, I did, just in case, advise them that before running the update to install the MS fix, they should remove any non-Microsoft workarounds and fixes/changes they have done to address this security hole. (As of this morning when I advised them that there were new 'unofficial' workaround fixes available, there was a total of NONE of them willing to install it themselves, or pay for me to go and do it for them.) JimB P.S. so far my Win2KPro system seems to be running ok with the MS fix applied, but I have no intention of loading a bad file to test it I'll just live in hope ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen Bird" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 05, 2006 10:30 PM Subject: Re: WMF security patch released > On Thu, 5 Jan 2006 22:22:48 -0000, James Button wrote: > > >I've notified the clients/users I support to make sure they run windows update. > > The interview with the non-MS developer, which Carl kindly referred us to, says: > > "Should they uninstall your fix before they do that? > My fix can be uninstalled before or after applying the official patch." > > This seems to suggest folks may sometime wish to uninstall the non-MS patch. :-) > -- > cheers, Stephen > > -- > ---------------------------------------- > The WIN-HOME mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned > LISTSERV(R) list management software.
