Unfortunately, this depends if the HAL is different enough
for Windows to notice and NOT load drivers that hang.
It is a "gotta be there and try it" type of thing.
HAL= Hardware Abstraction Layer

but even better: (but an odd mix of an English page...)

If you have another spare H/D or want to test with your new one,
GO FOR IT...
Just do NOT erase the old one until the new one works...
AND:
Don't EVER allow the old drive to boot in the new machine.

I clone from a Boot CD so I don't have that problem.
Clone (from bootCD) the old one and unplug it before the machine
ever boots Windows again, from either drive, especially if you do
the clone on the new machine...

From: "McPeak, Harry D."
I have been told by a couple of folks, including the
people I bought new box from, that because the
new CPU has a different chipset than the old that
I can't just swap out my HD's from the old box to
the new, which had been my plan.
