I'm interested in using my laptop when I'm out of town as well. So
what other options would there be. I searched the archives for
Wayne's messages but couldn't find enough info about other options.
Also VZW doesn't seem to have anything on their webpage about the
"Express Network". What is that??
They don't list "Express Network" any more because they want to sell
you Mobile Office. I've posted all that is needed in an earlier
message within this thread & it's also in the archives but I'll
repeat again anyway
The dialup to Express Network is different than Mobile Office is too.
Mobile Office was UN = qnc with a PWD = qnc with dialup to # 777
Express Network UN = mobile # @ vzw3g.com (no spaces) with a PWD of
vzw & a dialup of # 777.
All you need is a phone that is capable of acting as a fax/modem &
setup dialup networking to the above parameters. I do it all the time
today & for the past couple of years such as the Samsung A310 [not
avail] or the Samsung A530 [not avail] or the Samsung N330 which is
still available.
If one searches the VZW website for "Express Network" you'll only see
results that say National Access. I wonder why? Some phones still
support this but most of them do not but that doesn't mean it's not
available. You can find out more about it at
<http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobileoptions/nationalaccess/index.jsp?action=nationalAccess>
The LG8100 does NOT support National Access according to the VZW
website
<http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&update=&cartIndexLocation=&deviceType=Phones&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2202>
& when it doesn't work like the Samsung 310 or 530 then you heard it
here 1st. It's not what they say on the website but it's what they
don't say that's important & they do NOT say that the LG8100 supports
Nat'l Access.
The cheapie LG VX4650 does support National Access but they don't
want to sell you that.

Their supt is useless. More than half of them don't know the
difference. One can use the Mobile Office software [but that's not
the network] to access either their Express Network or their Mobile
Office network but that does NOT mean that one has to use it. I don't.
If you look here <http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=665>
it shows that the LG VX8100 uses a different data packet called 1xEV-DO r0
while the Samsung A310
<http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=127> & A530
<http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=207> use 1xRTT data
packet. This is what is req'd to connect for free [air time minutes
only] but what do I know?
FWIW the Samsung N330
<http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=596> still uses the
1xRTT data packet as does LG VX3300
<http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=617> You'll also
notice that the data PCMCIA cards that are available from VZW only
support drum roll please .............. NATIONAL ACCESS.
Why anyone would believe tech support over the most excellent
membership here is beyond me.
