I think the best one is free. I have been using Google's desktop search
since it's new beta a few months ago. I now is out of beta with a newer
version. It is fast once you get the initial indexing done. Then it
almost indexes instantly. I just don't use the picture slide show and a
couple of other plugins. I dropped coppernic desktop for google.

For a few years, I have been using X1 search for my systemwide
search. Now the latest version seems to be crashing my system. When
I remove it, the system works for days. After installing X1, the BSOD
can occur between 9 and 20 hours. Often I am not at the computer when
it crashes so I don't know what was occurring at crash time.
Are there any other desktop searches that are faster than the Windows
search utility? I am willing to pay a reasonable price for one. (<$100)
