Well there you go !!!!!!!!!  It wasn't me.  However, as you say the MOBO mapped 
it as an IDE and
actually XP install actually stuffed a load of files there but it wouldn't 
"boot or re-boo"t to
windows to continue.

Will have another go at Wayne's bat file suggestion in a cmd DOS window.
