The game is "Your Interactive Pet Dinosaur" put out by Viacom Newmedia. I
have searched the net but can not find any updates to it.
I have installed it on a Windows 98 PC and burned a copy of the nstalled
program and copied it on to my XP PC but when I try to run it, it tells me
that
it has not been properly installed and to run setup and when I do I get right
back to that directx fatal error.

No I meant on the games/installer's shortcut :) Do you not have access
to a win9x machine where you can install the game, then try a manual
copy of the game files over to the xp machine? Which game is it anyway?
I have found a (rare) few older games that will not work at all in xp,
but most can be forced to behave 1 way or another. Checked the game's
website for updates/patches?
