I've tried that RunAsUser app before. I didn't really care for it, but I didn't spend a lot of time messing with it either.

Depending on what you're doing, you don't have to actually logout of the limited account, if you have Fast User Switching enabled. I've found that most things work just fine by simply switching accounts.

At any rate, here's what I've come up with:

I opened the \windows\system32 folder and located all of the Control Panel applets. I then created shortcuts to the ones I use most often in a desktop folder. They all had the same generic icon, so I had to change them to the familiar ones. (I typed the file names in by hand; I had trouble getting them to actually change using the Browse button). They will launch with admin rights, and that's what I was going for.

I couldn't seem to locate the one for Printers and Faxes, but I rarely change that anyway. Also, two of the applets wouldn't launch -- bthprops.cpl and irprops.cpl -- so I didn't make shortcuts for them and don't know what they do.

It's not quite as elegant as the run IE as admin trick, especially since you must enter the username/password for each icon rather than once for the entire Panel. I think it'll work OK, though, once I get used to the change.

What if the hokey-pokey really is what it's all about?
