You've probably got some processes that are slow to shutdown and are hung
this is causing Windows XP to delay the shutdown. There's a registry hack to
speed
up stuck and hung processes. Windows XP, Me and 98 makes automatic backups of
the registry at
timed intervals through System Restore but other versions of Windows lower than
2000 and 98 don't so you're
ok.

I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro. Now,
whenever I want to shutdown, reboot, or hibernate, I go to Start | Turn Off
Computer. On my desktop there is maybe a 5 sec pause or so and the "3 button
window" pops up (Restart, Standby/Hibernate, Shut down)

However on my laptop, it takes 2-3 minutes for this to pop up. Very annoying.
Anyone have a clue as to why this extremely long delay?
