I get postcards from my Acura and Toyota dealers reminding of
routine maintenance.
I'm happy for you.
Ooooh -- sarcastic!
:-) And by going to the doctor, we beome more like doctors??
No but researching our own illnesses & taking positive steps to
become & stay healthy does.
There is so much misinformaion and conflicting and/or out-of-date information
on the Web -- and there's just plain too much information, too.
Nope. You go in and say "I want the 25,000 mile service".
So if they give you new brake pads you aren't going to question it?
Changing brake pads is unlikely to be a service item -- inspecting brake pads
is.
And we're not talking about you and me here. The initial premise was about "typical
PC users", not people with additional smarts/interest.
It would at least help to RTFM to find out what is included the
normal 25k mile checkup.
Why? Most people don't understand enough about what is called for to question
what they see in the FM.
I've had tires rated for 60k miles that needed changing at 30k miles
but I didn't wait for a blow out & no mechanic told me about them as
I periodically check for myself. Sure I complained to the
manufacturer but I didn't whine to the mechanic that handles the raw
material.
So you must had done some abnormal driving or perhaps you let them get
seriously underinflated?
FWIW many of us can't afford to pay the dealers prices for service
but I'm happy that you can.
I sure wouldn't take my car to Jiffy Lube! I always take my cars back to the dealers while they are under warranty, especially if that proves to be most convenient. In the old days, I was a pretty fair shade-tree mechanic but that ended about 20 years ago when I looked under the hood of my brand new Honda Prelude and saw hydraulic tubes running everywhere. But we got an old Chevelle station wagon for the kids to learn to drive on and that had so much room under the hood that a dropped tool never even slowed down on its way to the ground.
