Yeap - and i'd likely remove the upscale part and look more to longevity in
the neighborhood. I can occassionally pick up 3 or 4 ap's - but the signals
are weak because the houses here are too far apart (and we're back off the
road) so we can only really get decent signals from the houses right next
door - not farther away or across the street. War drivers could steal - but
it's a residental area and most of the street is parked up and someone just
sitting in a car would stick out like a sore thumb.

As would MAC filtering.
It all depends on the circumstances. If you and your neighbors
live in an upscale residential neighborhood, and you've known
each other for 30 years, it is highly unlikely they would resort
to hacking your connection. But if I lived in a high density
apartment building with transient residents, I'd certainly use WPA.
