Wouldn't that depend just as much on the antenna of the access-point?
No. We have a hi-speed wireless service in town that I see every time
I set up an access point & I'm over 2 miles away. The only thing that
prevents me from logging into that service is a UN & PWD.
I'd guess that a wireless service uses more powerful WAPs than
your garden variety consumer 802.11b/g devices.
