PL] the key with online banking and electronic bill payment is to use an
alert mechanism. My bank for example sends me an SMS alert whenever a amount
greater than a certain amount is debited from the bank. Of course, there are
ways around the system but we are getting there and it is a good start.

As long as you follow basic computer hygiene practices, I doubt you will get
shafted in online banking. Of course, someone could be sniffing your
connection over the wire and pick up your SSL keys or mount a replay attack
but then the probability of that happening is low or equal to your getting
shafted in using brick and mortar banking it least that is what my gut and
experience tell me.

I think you're all mad, I'd *NEVER EVER* trust my base fortunes to 
someone online. A paypal account with a low balance yes, a cc with the 
same, yes, but not to the extent of quicken etc, I'm continually being
